About Korowa Anglican Girls' School

Perhaps the most valuable ‘lesson’ a student can learn at Korowa is confidence. From their very first day at Korowa, students are encouraged, challenged and inspired to reach their full potential, wherever that may lie.

And we get results. Korowa is consistently ranked as one of the highest schools in the state for VCE results and university entry. In 2012, 66 per cent of our Year 12 students achieved an ATAR above 90, 48 per cent achieved an ATAR above 95, and nine per cent achieved an ATAR above 99. Our dux achieved a top ATAR of 99.95, and there were seven perfect subject scores among the class of 2012.

Curriculum

Our differentiated curriculum creates a dynamic educational environment. Here, one size does not fit all. We focus on the individual. Her talents, her interests and her aspirations.

The Early Years: Early Learning Centre (co-ed three- and four-year-old) and Junior School (Prep to Year 5)

From the very beginning, we focus on the development of the whole child, both inside the classroom and beyond, by providing a rigorous education program differentiated by the following features:

  • A sequential language program that begins at Prep: Unlike many schools, Korowa commits to serious language learning from Prep. Learning a second language in the early years improves literacy in the first language or mother tongue and advances a whole range of cognitive processes such as creative thinking and problem-solving.
  • Access to the special facilities and programs available to a K–12 school: Expert teachers across all curriculum areas, including science and mathematics, combined with first-rate facilities including science labs, music studios, libraries, art studios and a swimming pool are all accessible on one single campus.

Middle and Senior Years (Years 6 to 12)

The Middle (Years 6 to 8) and Senior (Years 9 to 12) Years are a time of great opportunity and achievement at Korowa, including the following curriculum highlights:

  • Challenging Year 9 Trek and Urban Program: All students have the opportunity to participate in this lifechanging program. The trek, a five-week expedition to the NSW coast, challenges girls to develop resilience, independence and problem-solving skills. Similarly, in the Urban Program students can experience independent life outside the classroom in regional centres and the city.
  • More than 40 subjects available at VCE and university-level extension subjects: Students are offered the full breadth of subjects, giving them the opportunity to excel in areas where their strongest interests and skills lie. Vocational Education and Training is also offered to ensure the program caters for diverse interests.

Technology

Our technology program includes a notebook and tablet PC program from Year 6 that is supported by a structured, ongoing cybersafety program. From Year 6, the personal computer program opens up a powerful new dimension to students’ daily learning in the classroom.

Student welfare

Building long-term resilience and confidence in students in, outside and beyond the classroom is the key differentiator of Korowa’s approach to student welfare. We aim to give girls the confidence and strategies to recognise and deal with the ups and downs of interpersonal relationships and conflicts as they arise, whether in the classroom, in the playground or online. Ultimately, our approach to student welfare starts from day one and is based on being able to support our students to make good decisions about their safety at school and beyond.
