Message from the Headmaster

I am proud to be the Headmaster of Trinity Grammar School. It is a vibrant and energetic school and I congratulate my staff on their willingness to go the extra mile for our boys. The relationship between the staff and boys is paramount to their success in their studies and their enjoyment of school. Every boy should be able to find an interest area or activity in which they can succeed. We have boys who succeed at the highest levels of their academic subjects, who are wonderful thespians, enjoy the passion of Music, thrive on the competiveness of Sport, who love the outdoors, a good debate or who are young designers or computer technicians.

Trinity is an Anglican School, but accepts boys of all faiths and religions. We are, I believe, an innovative school, yet quite traditional in our structure and curriculum offerings. All boys have their own tablet computer from Year 5, we share many classes with Ruyton Girls' School in Years 11 and 12 and we have just opened the outstanding Centre for Contemporary Learning comprising the Senior Library. I invite you to contact the School's Registrar to tour the School or to attend one of our Open Days.

- Rick Tudor (Headmaster).

About Trinity Grammar School Kew

Trinity aims to assist each boy to achieve his full potential. Students of all faiths are welcome, and a feature of the school is the personal attention given to each student. Trinity is an academic school based on a broad curriculum and a wide range of extra curricular activities. It was founded in 1903 and has five campuses. The academic campus is in Kew, and there are outstanding sporting ovals in Bulleen — five kilometres from Kew. The school also has three outdoor centres — Lake Eppalock, Nillahcootie and Licola.

The school has a reputation as an innovative educator based around a core academic program. All students use notebook computers from Year 5 onwards; the Design and Technology units provide hands-on experience for the boys in wood, metal, plastic, electronics and robotics; the outdoor program has an outstanding leadership component; and Learning Journeys provides a specialised personal development program for Year 8 students.

Trinity shares many classes with Ruyton Girls’ School at Years 11 and 12. The drama and music programs offer wonderful opportunities for boys to excel in these areas. The school fields up to 90 teams each Saturday as part of the AGSV sporting competition. The Senior School, Junior School and ELC are all on the one site, which creates a friendly atmosphere around the school, and the relationship between staff and students is very engaging.

The school has recently opened the magnificent Centre for Contemporary Learning, which contains the Senior Library.

Caring for your son

Trinity is widely regarded as a caring school. The boys have always come first, and although at times the school needs to be firm, this is always in the best interests of the students. It is important to be consistent when educating and nurturing young boys. At Trinity there are form teachers, heads of year, counsellors and the chaplaincy team, while the school's house program provides a real opportunity for student leadership and peer mentoring.

Curriculum

In the Senior School, most students will study the same subjects at Years 7 and 8, with the major difference being the language choice. At Years 9 and 10 boys are offered a huge range of elective subjects to choose from. Some boys choose to study accelerated mathematics, an additional science subject or a particular branch of history. Hospitality, philosophy, commerce subjects and design and technology units are all available for boys to choose. At Years 11 and 12 we offer a broad range of VCE subjects in conjunction with Ruyton Girls’ School. Some VET subjects are also offered. The coordinate program with Ruyton provides a greater depth of subject choice and an opportunity for the boys and girls to interact socially at an appropriate age of maturity.

Co-curricular

There is an enormous range of co-curricular activities — from the 20 different sports, to debating, drama, musical ensembles and orchestras, to chess and bushwalking. Some of the more popular activities are the F1 in School model cars and the RACV Energy Challenge. Both activities involve the boys making vehicles that can be raced.

Travelling to Trinity is easy

Trinity is located in Wellington Street, Kew, and is well served by the trams that run along Cotham Road, High Street and Glenferrie Road, as well as the Hurstbridge train line and the numerous trains that run through Glenferrie Station. Many public buses and school buses travel to Kew from the eastern suburbs and from the inner-city areas of Fitzroy and Carlton. Students come from as far away as Ferntree Gully, Strathmore, Armadale, North Melbourne, Whittlesea, Research and Kangaroo Ground.
