Message from the Principal

This is a wonderful School with a rich heritage and many strong traditions. My vision is simple: to make this great School even greater. We can do this by building on the successes of the past with a sense of pride in where we have come from and the achievements of those who went before us, while moving the School forward in the 21st century.

Ipswich Girls' Grammar School and Ipswich Junior Grammar School provide a complete and contemporary education for young boys, girls and young women in a friendly setting, preparing each student for success in a complex and changing world.

Our Schools are highly regarded for friendliness, strength of spirit, and commitment to keeping class-sizes small and personal.

We are also known for nurturing positive attitudes to the hard work and discipline required to achieve and sustain excellence - in the classroom, at sport, on the stage, for all endeavour. Our supportive learning programs favour not only the exceptional students at either end of the academic scale, but indeed all students, whatever their goals and challenges might be.

It's the particular way our experienced staff teach the innovative, challenging curriculum and the care they invest in each student's personal development and well-being that maintains our School's proud record of achievement.

If excellence, leadership, individualised care, and preparation for life beyond school are important for the kind of education you desire for your child, Ipswich Girls' Grammar School and Ipswich Junior Grammar School welcome you to our School community.

- Dr. Peter Britton (Principal).

About Ipswich Girl's Grammar School

Since Ipswich Girl's Grammar School was established in 1892, academic excellence, leadership, individualised care, and preparation for life beyond school have been the cornerstones of our educational philosophy. We strive to develop young people who will take their places confidently in the community and apply the caring values and quality standards they have learned at school to all aspects of their future lives. IGGS & IJGS students enjoy learning about their world with projects and resources that develop their ability to solve problems, think creatively, act independently, and communicate their ideas effectively. These are the skills that will help them participate with confidence in a complex and changing world. Our staff includes specialist teachers, qualified psychologists, nutritionist, registered nurses and experienced boarding supervisors, because we know that a caring and stimulating environment enhances a student’s efforts to do their best, whatever their age, gender or ability. We understand how young people’s needs and learning patterns change as they grow up. That’s why we offer educational programs that are dynamic, relevant, and practical. It’s also why our study and co-curricular programs are designed to help all students discover the benefits of a balanced lifestyle.

Curriculum

Our teachers are experienced educators who understand how to bring out the best in all children. At every level, learning is designed to inspire, challenge and motivate students, encouraging them to pursue their true potential. The value of learning is enhanced and specific strategies are employed to promote students’ use of efficient and effective tools for learning.

With one-to-one personalised learning, our students benefit from more student-teacher interaction and opportunities to focus on their individual needs.

Our curriculum is innovative, with uncompromising standards in literacy, numeracy, critical thinking and inquiry.

IGGS & IJGS are committed to using Dimensions of Learning, a comprehensive, proven, teaching framework which underpins our curriculum from Kindy to Year 12.

The philosophy of Dimensions of Learning is based around established methods of instruction which encourages students to become active and independent learners. It provides them with strategies for learning which will ensure they can successfully engage in higher order thinking and acquire the knowledge and skills they need for secondary school, and post-school education.

The staged implementation of our 1:1 laptop program and relevant software reflects the growing sophistication of our students and ensures they are well-prepared for a constantly changing world.

Almost 100 per cent of OP eligible IGGS graduates receive a tertiary offer.
